Having A Child Changed Me – Terry G

Terry G spoke about how his little son has made him change;
“Having a kid has a lot to do with my change ofcharacter. Sometimes you see life in a different way. You perceive it in another way another time. When I had a kid, I saw so much value in my life and the future. I became humbled and developed the mindset that anything that has to do with my future must automatically involve my son as well. I started changing a lot of things and it actually scared a lot of negative friends from me. It helped me resolve and re-organise myself again. In the past, some children appeared scared to come close to me, but all that has changed. Fatherhood has been awesome, amazing and a miracle to me. My son is my replica.”

''The competition has taught me a lot'' Project Fame winner, OLAWALE OJO

Life in the academy ?

First few weeks in the academy was not too pleasant , because I didn't even believe in my self then . What I do was to just go on stage and do what I know how to do better . Even at a time I was abused of singing without emotion, but as time goes on I got used to it and pushed ahead .

How did you feel when announced winner ?

My mind went blank. I am grateful to God and appreciate those who believed in me and voted for me massively. It’s actually not all about my talent but those who believed in me and voted me to the top and all I have to say is thank you and I promise I will never disappoint them .

Any plan for the money, contract and car presently ?

I think for now I will focus on the recording contract , because there is nothing for me to spend the money on . And I have been surviving without the money , but as time goes on I will think of how to invest it. There is a difference between spending and working. If there is one thing I can buy out of the money for now, it would be a lovely piano. I had one but it’s not really good. I would give it to someone.

Have you been to a reality show before Project fame?

Actually , I have never been to a reality show or any form of audition before. Project fame is my first attempt . Though a friend actually pushed me into the competition. He said, why was I wasting my talent in the corner of my house, because I’m always playing my piano and also involved myself in church activities. I was very nervous when I went for the audition. But now I am glad and thank God it’s now a history.

What do you think make people to like you ?

It was when I did Asa’s song. The moment I did the song, everything changed. It was then I comprehended all the things the faculty members taught me and I began applying their lessons.

Were you ever intimidated by anyone in the academy ?

I wasn’t intimidated by anyone, and I think we are all unique in our own ways . What I do was just to make sure I give the best and I did not forge myself .

What were your winning strategies?

My winning strategy was just being myself. The second factor was God.

Any challenges in the academy ?

My greatest challenge was being nervous and rigid on stage but as time goes on I was able to overcome it .

What was your father's reaction to your choice of profession ?

He wasn’t happy with it , but his discouragement really taught me how to be a fighter. If I didn’t give it a fight, I wouldn’t have been where I am today. His discouragement was a motivating factor that propelled me to greater heights. And he was indifferent because I am the first musician in my family. Thus, it didn’t really appeal to him. However, when I was picked after the audition, he was happy.

As a student , how would you manage academics and the stardom ?

I would just be myself. I was in school before Project Fame and I have been rehearsing. Thus, it won’t disturb me much. Let me just wait and see how it would play out because I have not tasted stardom before. I don’t know how it feels out there.

What’s your genre of music?

I am an R n’ B singer but due to my flexibility, I can perform well in other genres too. The competition has taught me a lot.

‘My expectation was to get to the top and be number one slot. ’ - IMMACULATE PATIENCE EDOCHIE, 1st runner-up

How do you feel as first runner up?

I feel grateful. I was actually speechless. I don’t have the right words to describe the feeling. I am so happy. It shows that hard work pays, I am so happy.

Your expectation while going into the academy?

My expectation was to get to the top and to be number one slot. However, I’m still okay with the second position. From the onset, I performed as if I was at the final.

Tell us your winning strategies in the academy ?

(Hmmmm), The first thing I do was to blank out my mind from the overlook the money , the car and the recording deal. The reason was that when you have the consciousness that you are in a competition, you will deprive yourself of your originality. So I blanked myself out and desired to be myself and have fun. Because to me music is an expression of your beauty. That helped me to stay focused.

Were there any challenges?

There were lots of emotional incidents. The joy of it was that it made me stronger. While in the academy I was like, ‘I am tired’ and wanted to go home. But I learnt to face it and overcome it.It was not easy because you have to wake up sometimes in the middle of the night to learn songs and train yourself to be perfect . But at last I was able to overcome the worries . And one of the challenges was s the Nancy issue. It taught me to always be prepared. Everybody can’t like you. It taught me how to handle issues.

Your next step from here ?

I intend to disturb all of you with good music. I will make my fans proud. Omawumi is my mentor, she is my reference point. She was not the winner but successful now. It’s not about winning. I am an achiever. Not all winners are achievers. So my plan is to pay back my fans with good music.

What’s your genre of music?

I love African music. And the songs I want to focus on is more of Africa , because there is a lot in Africa which people do not know about so am here to unveil it .

What’s your plan for the N3 million and car?

My plan is to relax and invest later. I want to utilize the fame first before the money.

I want to finish my education before I go fully into music Margaret Cephas

How do you fill as the second runner up ?

Am okay and I feel great because it wasn’t easy at all

Your experience in the academy ?

It was tough for me , though I don’t know about others . But I feel good at least I came the second runner up

Why did you come all the way from Liberia ?

I think its because project fame is meant for Africans and its a big project too . So my coming was never a mistake because today I am been known almost all over the world

Your plans ?

I want to focus on my studies first after which I can go fully into music . And for the money I will keep it at least I have a car to move around

''I've learn how to be creative ''-NINIOLA APATA, 3rd runner-up

How do you feel as the third runner up ?

I feel great, happy and grateful to God.

Did you ever think of getting to this stage ?

Yes. Though I wish to be the winner but all the same am glad that I still got something and thanks to my fans because without them its possible for me not t go this far , so am happy .

How did you feel when you were announced the third runner up ?

Sincerely, I was shock because I didn’t expect it . But I give God thanks .

What did you learn in the academy , and how has it helped you ?

The first lesson in the academy was being myself. Be original. Second, I learn how to appreciate African culture. Also, I learnt how to be creative and utilize it for my own good.

Your plan for the N2 million?

I don’t have any plan now because when you are conscious of the fact that you have money, you will squander it. The money would be utilized to help me push my career to limelight

“I Lost My Pride, Self-Esteem And Baby In My Marriage” – Chika Ike

Chika Ike, Actress, Divorced

Divorced Nollywood actress, Chika Ike, seems not to forget the woes of her marriage in a hurry, as she has come out with more scathing revelations against her ex-husband, Tony Eberiri.
Chika who acted in several Nollywood movies including ‘Standing Alone,’ ‘My Prince,’ ‘My Princess,’ ‘Paradise’ and ‘Emotional Blackmail,’ exposed her pain via her Facebook posts: “Growing up as a girl, I was always known as the sweetest kid on the bloc. Before I got married, I have been through some relationships and for once, no man had ever laid a finger on me.
The first time it happened in my marriage, I didn’t understand it because I am not the type of woman a man beats but I guess there are no types. It just happens and no woman deserves it. I thought it was love or his way of expressing his emotions, but after every beating, he pleads, cries and says it won’t happen again; once again, I thought it was love and made excuses for him.
Over the years, when it kept happening consistently, I started looking for other definitions for it. I started losing my self-pride, self-esteem, self-worth, and most painfully, I lost my baby, (miscarriage). I almost lost my life in the process, and then I realized how serious and abnormal it really was.”
So sad there! Real men do not beat women.

If you’re in Kano, watch what you wear, they’re arresting people now for indecent dress

If you're in Kano, watch what you wear, they're arresting people now for indecent dress

According to a report by AFP, police who enforce Islamic law in Kano have arrested 150 people in the last week, including for indecent dress, as part of a crackdown on immorality.
From AFP
Some people in Nigeria’s second city have been picked up for sporting hair styles inspired by prominent international football players, said Mohammed Yusuf Yola, spokesman for Kano’s sharia police, or Hisbah. Others were thrown in jail and fined for wearing their trousers too low on their waists, mimicking a style that became prominent in the 1990s, partly through the influence of some American hip hop artists. The arrests have followed an order by Kano state Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to cleanse the city of immoral practices and the trend is set to continue in the weeks ahead, said Hisbah Director-General Abba Sufi. The Hisbah is a state police force funded by state govt and is not part of the federal police.“We have arrested 150 men and women in the past week, including prostitutes and their boyfriends, transvestites, alcoholics and those engaged in indecent dressing in contravention of the sharia legal code,” Yola told AFP.

Religion has repeatedly been used as a political issue in Kano and the governor, seen as a moderate, has been accused by rivals of lacking commitment to sharia’s guidelines.Yola insisted the operation was launched to reverse disturbing trends in the city of some five million people and is targeting people of various faiths.“Those arrested include Muslims and non-Muslims and we treat them equally because this is about morality,” he said.
Kano, like the rest of northern Nigeria, is majority Muslim, but the city has a sizeable Christian minority.
Some of those arrested have been released after paying fines ranging from 10,000 naira ($63, 46 euros) to 15,000 naira, Yola said.
“Those who could not afford the fine are being kept in prison,” he added, but he would not specify the number of people currently being held.
At the restoration of civilian rule in 1999, 12 northern states, including Kano, formally adopted sharia, but the Islamic legal system has been unevenly applied.
The Hisbah was formed in 2001, largely to enforce sharia, but the force has other duties, including some community development work and alternative dispute resolution.
The southern half of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, is mostly Christian

Whatever I’m doing here, I’m doing it with everything I have and I need to be respected and be paid — Keshi

Super Eagles’  Coach Stephen Keshi on Wednesday described the seven-month salaries being owed him by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) as “the lowest point” of his coaching career.
Keshi said this in Abuja at the Home-based Super Eagles’ interactive session with the media ahead of the team’s upcoming international friendly with Jordan in Amman.
He spoke in reaction to a statement credited to the NFA that the allowances and bonuses the team’s coaches earn were enough to sustain them.
WORRIED — Keshi
Keshi is being owed about N35million in salary arrears.
Keshi however said the NFA had not done him any favour with the Super Eagles’ coaching job, because he had done the job with all he had.
Owing me up to seven months makes me feel I am not being appreciated. It is like they (my employers) think I am being favoured in what I am doing.
I am not being favoured. Whatever I am doing here, I am doing it with everything I have and I need to be respected and be paid — Keshi
“The lowest point of my career is working and not being paid for seven to eight months. I have never had this kind of experience before,” he said.
The former Super Eagles captain recalled that he was never owed his salaries when he worked with the Malian and Togolese football federations as coach of their senior national teams.
“In Mali, they will never owe you. Your salary will hit your account before the end of every month. It was the same thing in Togo.
“Owing me up to seven months makes me feel I am not being appreciated. It is like they (my employers) think I am being favoured in what I am doing.
“I am not being favoured. Whatever I am doing here, I am doing it with everything I have and I need to be respected to be given my pay,” Keshi said.
He said it was unbelievable that he and his colleagues had worked without pay for about eight months out of the 24 months they have worked with the Super Eagles.
“I don’t like discussing about money issues and if there is any NFA member who said we can work for free, then I will want to speak with him face to face.
“If they say we can work for free and that they are not going to pay, so be it.
“I can’t have my family  and I will be in debt because I have not been paid for seven months and somebody is saying we should not complain,” the coach said.
He regretted that the NFA appears not to be concerned about their plight “in spite of training under rain and sun to make Nigerians happy”.
NAN recalls that Aminu Maigari, the NFA chairman, had recently confirmed the debt owed Keshi and his colleagues.
He had however said the Nigerian football governing body could not help it as it was cash-strapped.
Maigari claimed that the situation had led to the slashing of the Eagles’ winning bonus from $10,000 to $5,000.
He also pointed out that some NFA members of staff were being owed for over a year.
Maigari had mentioned those being owed to include Musa Amadu, the Secretary-General, Mohammed Sanusi, the Director of Competitions, and Emmanuel Ikpeme, the Director of Technical
