Veteran Nollywood actress and movie producer, Modupe Mariah Johnson, otherwise known as Faliwerepe, who became famous after her role in the popular Batawahala Yoruba soap opera of the late 80s and early 90s, in a recent interview spoke On how she got the name Faliwerepe. She said the name came through the famous Yoruba soap of the late 80s and early 90s titled "Bata Wahala" by Ajimajasan. She played the role of a troublesome person and people started calling her Fali-Werepe, meaning that she is troublesome.

On whether her inability to be educated in life robbed on her success in the movie industry, she replied:

“Far from it, yes I can say I still feel guilty that I didn't get a full education but let me also tell you that nothing an educated person has gotten that I have not gotten through movie. Through acting I have raised educated children and travelled all over. I have built houses and when I say houses, I won't like to say maybe it is one or two. But at least I am a landlady through my gift of acting.” 

“I have travelled to several countries of the world and the last time I went to America I was even making jest of myself; I said when we were growing they used to sing that "Bata Re a dun koko-ka (2ce) to'o ba kawe re, bata re a dun koko ka" (Your shoe will make the Kokoka noise (2ce) if you read your book, your shoe will make the Koko ka noise". And I said, 'look at me, despite the fact that I didn't read my shoe is still doing ko-ko-ka . What if I now read (Laughter).” 

“But the fact remains that education is the best asset you can give a child, no matter how gifted the child is, you must give education to that child, for me, maybe my rare creativity as an actress made some way for me. My peculiar nature, my peculiar creativity and all that but not withstanding, I will always advise young people especially the female child to go to school. Life changes everyday and education remains the only current that will pay your life bills.”

On the major challenges of being a veteran actress especially with the emergence of young actresses, she said, change is the only thing that will last a decade or a century and so they continue to reinvent themselves.

She said being a veteran actress does not affect her stuff as an actress but in terms of make up.

"I am above 50 and at times, when your body is aging, things you do as a young person might start eluding you. For instance, I like laying my eye lash as a young girl but now, if I try doing it the thing will just slip up and become a total mess, so what I do is that I go along with my make-up artiste anywhere I go."

The weeks long feud trailing the Cross River chapter of Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN election over who the authentic State Chairman of the Guild is, finally came to an end following the recent visit by the National President of the Guild, Ibinabo Fiberesima to the chapter to clear the air.

In a statement filed to the state police commissioner, Kola Sodipo, the AGN boss confirmed Monica Udofia as the newly elected chairperson of the guild in Cross River State.

Commenting on the issue, Ibinabo attributed the crisis in the guild to greed while calling on members to shelf their grievances and return back to move the guild forward.

According to her “I came to sort out the election issue. I‘ve realized that, most states that we have elections, people who lost out refuse to settle; they think causing problems would solve it. I don’t mind going to every state because things are getting out of hand; people must learn to abide to the rule of law.”

Meanwhile, following her submission to the police, there are strong indications that the former chairman of the chapter, Eric Anderson may be summoned to answer questions on issues of Diamond bank teller forgery and other related criminal offenses.

Lagos expects 263 days of heavy rainfall this year

LAGOS—Lagos State government, yesterday, declared that the state is expecting 263 days of rainfall this year and this may be accompanied with strong winds, lightning and thunderstorms.

It added that rainstorms would be common over the coastal cities areas with occasional flash flood and ocean surges that would greatly affect persons living along the flood plains but the magnitude of devastation shall depend on the activities of the people.

It would be recalled that the state government last year, announced  rainfall of between 249 and 275 days with intermittent stoppages.

The state Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, stated this at the presentation of year 2014 annual seasonal rainfall prediction and socio- economic implication for the state as earlier predicted by Nigerian  Meteorological Agency, NIMET, held at Ministry’s office, Alausa, Ikeja.

“The Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, SRP, rainfall onset date for this year began in the first week of March in the southernmost part of the country and late June in the far northern parts. However, rainfall onset in Lagos Stare has since commenced from 14 March, 2014 in Ikeja, with a three days marginal error was given.

“The strong winds, lighting and thunderstorms which are regular phenomena during the onset and cessation of rainfall was also predicted to occur in stronger magnitude during this year’s raining period,” he stated.

So how can a lady go about it? Ask him where are we going? I sense this is where the relationship is going, what do you think? Its either a yes or a no, but with that, you know where you are going instead of being on an emotional roller coaster and your heart is smashed into pieces at the end of the day”.

Pastor Sam supported his position with the story of Ruth in the Bible who was taught to propose to Boaz whom she eventually married according to Ruth Chapter 3  in the Bible. He however emphasized the need for women to apply uttermost wisdom before attempting it.

Report reaching us confirms that there is a fire outbreak in a petrol station in Lagos. 

It was learnt that the inferno occurred on Wednesday morning at the Mobil Petrol Station along Oba Akran in Ikeja. 

We could not confirm the cause of the fire before publishing this report. Efforts are ongoing to put out the inferno.

However, in an interview with Encomuim magazine, the musician revealed his intention to sue the lady for libel. He also disclosed that he had wanted to lavish gifts on Nike until she messed up the plan.

Why are you now the complainant?
I am the complainant at Panti now. I took the case there because of Nike’s false accusation. And the police are still conducting their investigations. On Thursday, March 6, 2014, I went to Panti but she didn’t show up. Police had to go to her Festac home address, they couldn’t find her there. It was discovered that that she left a fake address at the station.

But you had sex with her? 
What are you saying? Somebody who slept in my house for almost three days? Am I not a man? She even confessed she enjoyed me better than anybody ever. So, tell me how can she call that rape? Where is rape coming in this matter between two adults? I am surprised o, my brother.

Why did you have sex with her, when you’re married, even in your house? 
I am not an angel. Besides, I am a complete man. So, you can’t rule that out in a man because we’re all human beings. But what I can’t do is to rape and I didn’t rape Nike. That was obvious.

Did she request for money which you couldn’t oblige? 
Not at all. She didn’t ask for money but within me, I had a plan to make her happy for meeting me.

But what’s going to happen now? 
How? She has messed up the whole relationship now. There is nothing to talk about again. Nothing can happen between us again.

But Nike claimed you inserted a ring in her private part, soon after she started bleeding profusely…
(Cuts in) There was nothing like that. She was only lying, looking for a way of blackmailing me so that she can achieve her aim. I have only a wedding ring and the finger bearing that can’t even do anything like that. I didn’t do anything like that. For a person to have slept for three days with me and she is now saying rubbish. Nike is a blatant liar and a scammer.

What’s going to happen next now? 
I want to charge her to court for libel. I want her to learn her lesson. She should stop being dubious. I also want every girl out there to learn from her. They should not embark on that kind of shady deal to swindle men.

Did you regret your action, we mean making love with Nike? 
Not at all. I can’t regret it because it happened naturally between the two of us.

What was your wife’s reaction to the story? 
My wife believes I am a human being. I am not an angel. She didn’t react badly to it. She only warned me to be very careful with some women. So far you married a wife that understands you, a wife that stands as your mother, you won’t have any problem. She is like a mother to me.

But don’t you think this allegation is enough to put your image on the line? 
Nothing like that. It can’t in any way damage my reputation because everybody knows I am not an angel. I am an entertainer. It can never disturb my career. Even as I speak to you now, I am somewhere in Ogbomoso, where I would be performing tonight.

Blame Poor Growth Of Nollywood To Lack Of Treaties--Ibinabo

President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, has blamed the poor growth of Nollywood in the country to lack of treaties.

According to her, ‘most of our leaders have not been able to understand what it is to be a leader.’

She noted that treaties ought to be signed so that it would be on paper that foreigners are welcome into the country.

‘Most other African countries have treaties and we don’t have, yet we have a bigger film industry.’

S*xual Harassment Doesn’t Exist In Nollywood--Actress, Nkem Ike Speaks

Fast rising Nollywood star, Nkem Ike, has decried the various dirge about sexual harassment in Nollywood.

According to Nkem, ‘I have never seen any man or woman that said they used gun to harass him or her in the industry.’

The actress admonished her colleagues in the industry that think the easiest way to get roles and become a star is by trading their bodies, saying they should realise that it doesn’t work that way.

‘Nobody has complained he was harassed at gunpoint. Sexual harassment doesn’t exist in Nollywood the way it is usually painted,’ Nkem posited.
